Quality Metrics defines how each quality requirement will be measured: indicator, target, direction (higher or lower is better), measurement technique, frequency and owner. At each measurement you enter the measured value and the status shows whether the target was met; off-target results get an action, a date and an owner. The examples come from the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition (percentage of tasks on time, CPI, failure rates, defects per day and others).

How to Use This Quality Metrics Template (PMBOK 8)

1. For each quality requirement in the plan, write one or more indicators with a code (IQ01, IQ02…).
2. Define the target, the direction (higher or lower is better), the measurement technique, the frequency and who measures.
3. At each measurement, enter the measured value: the status shows whether the target was met.
4. If it is off target, record the action, when and the owner. The result goes into the Quality Report.
5. Examples from the Guide (p. 234): % of tasks on time, CPI, failure rates, defects per day, downtime per month, errors per line of code, customer satisfaction, test coverage.
